The department of economics is a well-established department of Sarupathar College under the renowned Dibrugarh University of Assam. Our Department tries to achieve academic and career success through the development of effective learning in and outside the classroom. The department is driven to provide excellent educational opportunities that are responsive to the needs of our students and empower them to meet and exceed challenges as active participants in shaping their future. the department always encourages students to be passionate and achieve their goal.

The central mission of the department is to empower the students with a critical understanding of economic theory, and empirical interpretations of economic issues and policies. To enhance the student’s capabilities, advance their skills and efficiency for better employability in the competitive job market.

The department's vision is to develop an institution of excellence with the spirit of leadership serving the society globally through academic engagement.

With a view to expand the scope of economics at a larger scale, the department has also introduced a new Add-On Certificate course on Data Analysis in Economics from the year 2022 for the greater benefit of the students. 
The department is endowed with friendly principles and all faculty members are an integral part of the decision-making process in all its activities. 

The Department is planning to start career development / counselling programme in future and planning to conduct national seminars , student seminars , workshop , awareness programme about the economic problems related to our Economy
